Now that’s a lot of consoles!  Microsoft has just confirmed that 70 million Xbox 360 have been sold throughout the world, with 1.7 million of those selling in the first quarter of 2012 alone.  The first quarters sales are down about 600,000 from last years first quarter sales, but the numbers are still pretty impressive.  Xbox continues to be the best selling console in the US, with 49% of the market share.

Congrats Microsoft and the Xbox.  You’ve made one hell of a console, and its sales continue to show that.  I remember when I first heard that Microsoft was making a console a little more than a decade ago.  Me, and most of my friends, thought it was a terrible idea.  We thought they’d get crushed by Sony, Nintendo and Sega.  Well I’m not too proud to admit I’m wrong…. and I’m glad that I was.  The innovations Microsoft has brought to the industry should make us all happy that they’re here.  Hopefully the Xbox 360 continues to sell well, and hopefully their next system sells even better!
