The marketing VP of Bethesda Softworks, Pete Hines, isn’t too sure whether or not the company will support the Wii U in the future.  In a recent interview with MVC Pete said their motto has always been to, “put our games out on all of the platforms that will support them.”  Buuuuuut he also said, “So far the Wii hasn’t fitted into that. Whether Wii U does down the road is TBD.”

It’s a pretty interesting interview because it seems to show a general lack of excitement for new consoles from a sales standpoint.  They figure there’s still a lot left to be done on the current gen, and Bethesda is enjoying the fact that there’s a huge install base for them to release their games to.  When new consoles come out they tend to split that install base up, and of course that’ll “divide your audience”.  While there’s plenty of excitement from developers for new consoles, there’s a good deal to worry about too.  ”Obviously the changes they are going to make technologically, in terms of the things we will be able to do, are exciting. But it comes at a price.”

This is all pretty interesting stuff to me because it gives me a different perspective.  The business perspective.  I’ve always gotten excited about new consoles in the past because you get better graphics, more power and lots of new games.  It’s interesting to see companies worry about new consoles because it’ll split their profits.
