SEGA has just announced that they are going to be bringing three of their old school fighting games to modern consoles. Additionally they will be fully upgraded for online multiplayer support as well as achievements/trophies. The three games will include:

  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Sonic the Fighter’s

Doing online multiplayer right is crucial for any fighting game and will either make or break the games. It seems like last year saw a huge resurgence in fighting games in the gaming community and hopefully SEGA can keep it up. Many gamers might not even be familiar with these cult-classic games simply because they didn’t own a SEGA Saturn or play the arcade games since arcades have pretty much disappeared over the past decade.

Some background information for those n00bs out there:

Virtua Fighter 2 followed in the footsteps of its hit predecessor by bringing breakthrough 3D graphics and fighting gameplay to arcades. The title’s combination of deep combat and unique arenas led it to quickly become one of the flagship titles on the SEGA Saturn™ when it arrived on the console in 1995.

Fighting Vipers came to arcades and the SEGA Saturn the following year, in 1996, adding a new concept that was a fighting game first: destructible armor. Players could maximize their damage dealt by destroying an opponent’s protective gear, and could then finish the round by punching or kicking the other player right through the arena’s walls.

Sonic the Fighters’s arrival in arcades in 1996 offered players a first-ever opportunity to take to the ring with characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, including Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. Players had to battle their way through eight stages to collect chaos emeralds and once again thwart the evil plans of Dr. Robotnik and Metal Sonic!

Look for the games out November 27th in North America and December 5th for Europe each available for 400 MS Points or $4.99.
