This past Tuesday, 38 Studios and Big Huge Games released Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning across platforms and to some pretty favourable reviews. The open world action role-playing game allows players to choose a character between 4 races, multiple classes and tons of abilities on top of that to do battle in what some are calling a cross between God of War and Oblivion.

What many don’t know however is that 38 Studios was created by former baseball great Curt Schilling. And yes, it’s that Curt Schilling. Surprising many, it turns out that Schilling is quite the video game fan especially with MMOs including Everquest, WoW and our favourite Ultima Online.

As it turns out, Schilling actually has ties to our area (Maryland) as his wife is actually from here and his company acquired Timonium, MD game developer Big Huge Games which is now serving as 38 Studios’ “Baltimore-based” arm. And if this Maryland love fest couldn’t get any bigger – Our local sports radio show The Junkies ran into Schilling during their coverage of the Super Bowl last week where they actually talked some games!

Amazed at how one goes from a hall of fame pitching career to video game publisher owner, The Junkies talk to Schilling about what he’s expecting from Kingdoms of Amalur, what it’s like as the guy in charge and obviously about his baseball career, the trades he experienced and how the Ironman Cal Ripken would sometimes tell him what balls to throw!

So if you’re a Schilling fan, Kingdoms of Amalur fan, sports fan, or fan of life – Check out the excerpt from “The Sports Junkies” podcast below, check them out on iTunes and say hello to their guy EB over at his site!
