During my first play through I encountered some pretty egregious bugs and glitches which really detracted from my initial experience.  On multiple occasions the game froze or the sound simply cut out leaving delayed audio in the field and no dialogue during the cut scenes.  Button pushes sometimes don’t register despite standing in the correct spot. At one point during The Soul Arbiters Maze I was unable to hit any enemies and they were unable to hit me, leaving me completely stuck and having to dashboard out. Lastly at one point an NPC that accompanied me into a dungeon got stuck on some rocks somehow and wasn’t able to move and instead just floated there grunting.  Luckily the game auto-saves fairly often so worst case you lose a few minutes of work, but it really detracts from being immersed in the game and thank God that my autosave never got corrupted from the game freezing during an autosave, because I might have to send Wayne Brady over to choke a B.

Considering you are playing as Death in a post-apocalyptic battle for human life to be restored against angels, demons, and a strange all-consuming force known as Corruption, combat is going to really play a factor in how fun the game is.  Luckily Darksiders II does not disappoint in that regard.  There are tons of enemies ready to tear you to shreds, but between Death’s combos (which vary depending on the type of weapons you use) and the skills learned there is plenty of non-stop action, especially in certain parts of dungeons and specialty areas like The Crucible or The Soul Arbiter’s Maze, which feature tons of enemies. What steps the combat up even more so are the bosses.  Some of the bosses are massive and provide a grandiose epic battle that really sticks with you.  One boss in particular had me feeling like I was back playing Shadow of the Colossus or Castlevania Lords of Shadow.

The worlds you play in are vast and beautiful, the combat is top notch, the level designs are creative, but the story leaves much to be desired as the majority of the game you find yourself running errands that barely seem to deal with the initial goal of saving War.  There are tons of bugs and glitches, many of which I would hope are fixed with patches in the future, but overall the game is actually really good and incredibly fun to play.  There is so much to explore and do, that you can easily get your money’s worth on this title.  After all is said and done, I happily sunk in over 30 hours to finish my playthrough on Apocalyptic difficulty and am looking forward to my run on New Game Plus. Overall 80/100.
