Ravaged Review For PC

Vehicles
Vehicle play is clearly a major component in Ravaged.  This pays homage to the developer’s experience with vehicle heavy games such as the Battlefield series and the variety of vehicles already available is definitely nothing to sneer at.  They range from ATVs, pickup trucks, dune buggies, and helicopters.  And more vehicles are expected to be on the way in DLCs after release.  To be precise, 2 Dawn is considering bringing in a Bulldozer as the latest addition to the collection.  Including  heavy duty construction vehicles will definitely add yet more carnage and fun to this game.

I can’t stress enough how big vehicle integration is in this game.  They bring another level of gameplay that hasn’t been represented too well in many other titles. Specifically, vehicle play was usually unbalanced as an awkward add-on to the game that didn’t seem quite fluid with the rest of the game.  Other times they act as a sheer overkill reward for the player who finds it.  In Ravaged, vehicles are the mainstay of combat on the larger maps.  But at the same time, infantry combat is still the focus.  The game is perfectly balanced between full on close quarters and vehicular combat.

The vehicles do not seem to be an oddball element to the game at all.  While there is a definite learning curve to controlling these units, (I’m looking at you Gyro-Copter), utilizing these units seem very intuitive even in the mayhem of combat.  There is no noticeable change of pace when hopping in and out of the vehicles either.  And since most of these vehicles can accommodate multiple passengers to man the .50 Cal or the grenade launchers strapped on the top, there is a lot of flexibility of team play as well.  In fact, communication and team play is near essential to maximize your vehicles and achieve your goals.

Multiplayer

With only PC multiplayer being offered by design, the game delivers the an experience in the way a multiplayer FPS should be, as tt is just outright fun. There is no hesitation to dive right into an active server and into the meat grinder. With a generous spawn time and location system, those fast paced moments are never interrupted. Speaking of the spawn points, you can even spawn right into your teammate’s vehicle, further keeping the pace of the game high. With servers offering game modes up to 64 players (32 vs 32), you will no doubt find an intense mayhem experience that will make you sweat in your seat.

There are two modes to choose from for multiplayer, one is to capture the precious resource of the gas tank while the other is to effectively capture all the enemy’s bases and exterminate. While some may wonder about the lack of a single player campaign or the addition of A.I players. This game is just fine without any of it. For being a Kickstarter, the guys at 2 Dawn really knew what they were doing with this game and what people wanted. There is no cheesy campaign drama or glitchy A.I. that brings down the overall experience of the game.

Final Thoughts

While there are still some of the minor quirks in the game-play, most of those are effectively within the realm of minor tweaks and nitpicks that will likely be addressed in future DLCs.
With a truly dedicated development team at 2 Dawn actively seeking out input from the community, you can’t help but appreciate such quality and effort put into the game.  At a fairly reasonable price point of $24.99, it is simply no question that this is a must have game.  So if you are looking for an action packed shooter to dive right into either alone or with friends, this game is the one.
Overall score 90/100
