Red Crest Studios has released Andromium (their third game) now available for download through Microsoft’s Xbox Live Indie Games. When we first interviewed Michael Ventnor of Red Crest Studios and heard about the game for the first time we were very intrigued.
Upon first loading the game I was greeted with a catchy tune, highly reminiscent of the good old days of 8-bit gaming. After selecting which mode you want to play, there is a quick tutorial. The text that appears on the screen can be a little difficult to read given the bright green text on a green and black striped background (especially in the few cases where the remainder of the background is a bright white color). Luckily though there is relatively little that needs to be read throughout the game.

There are three game modes available.
- 1 player mode in which you control the left ship and the AI controls the right ship
- mastermind mode in which you control BOTH ships at once (VERY Difficult)
- 2 player mode identical to 1 player mode with the exception that the right ship is controlled by player2.
Imagine yourself flying through space with your partner playing a game of ‘hot potato’ with the newest element, Andromium. By pushing the A button, the element is passed back and forth from the players. The longer you hold onto it before passing to your partner, the more points you score, however hold onto it for too long and it will blow you up. Your ship does have a shield which makes you invincible to everything and can be used for a limited amount of time by pushing the left or right triggers. Also the Andromium slows down when it approaches a ship with an active shield.
