As I’m sure many of you are aware, Sony’s PlayStation Vita is not selling so well. In fact it’s doing rather horrid when compared to Nintendo’s 3DS, but all is not lost to the early adopters and those (like myself) looking to purchase the console in the future. We all know the potential the handheld has, but most third party developers are not willing to develop games on a platform that does not have the user install base large enough to make a profit. Perhaps a price cut will help matters? Speaking with Eurogamer, Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara stated that the odds of a price cut for the Vita would most likely happen sometime next year:

“We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when. We won’t have an across the board price down this Christmas. But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling.”

While that is not an official statement of saying “Price cut next year!” you can read between the lines that this is the road we are going towards. Either way you look at it, that’s a good way to get more units into peoples hands but more compelling games from established franchises, along with some new IPs, will really create a market for the Vita that even the PSP never had. Adding to the matter of the rumored PS3/Vita bundle that could be coming out during Christmas season,  this could be the first step for Sony to really push the Vita as a contender in the handheld market.
