It wasn’t that long ago that gamers celebrated Namco Bandai and their announcement that all the characters for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 would be unlocked from day one. But now it looks like either we all took those comments incorrectly or Namco is pullin the old okie-dope. From Namco:

… fighting game fans who pre-order [Tekken Tag Tournament 2] at select retailers can look forward to playing with additional DLC characters, Michelle Chang, Angel, Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre immediately at launch.

On day-one of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2’s launch, fans that placed their pre-orders with Amazon®.com and Best Buy® will gain access to the Michelle Chang & Angel characters, while players that placed their pre-orders through GameStop® will have exclusive access to fighters Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre in addition to Michelle Chang and Angel.

So here’s what we’re pulling together from all of this… When Namco said [via the Playstation Blog]:

During the Namco Bandai Gamer’s Day, the developers also clarified their position on offering DLC characters, with series director Katsuhiro Harada making it clear that the game won’t charge players to unlock new characters. This is good news for Tekken fans looking to experience any of the 50+ characters included on the game’s Blu-ray Disc.

They should’ve said “Out of the gate, there are 50+ characters on disc… That DOESN’T MEAN that there won’t be more characters later or even available on the first day… Don’t hold it against us…” Because when they made that statement, the public took it (naively so mind you) that there wouldn’t be anymore characters. And now it seems like you can only get these characters with Pre-Orders at certain stores… Does that mean you have to pay for them later if you don’t pre-order?

Who knows. And even though Namco technically didn’t lie about anything, does anyone else feel like they were misled?

UPDATE: Seems like those DLC characters will be TIME locked… So they won’t cause people anything at anytime down the road, but you’ll have to wait to get them.
