PS3 Report

At it’s annual Tokyo Game Show press conference, Sony announced some news items that while was more targeted to their Japanese fan base, they did make official announcements on stories we have been awaiting confirmation from.

One of those stories, which was previously reported in mid-July of this year, is a brand new PS3 model. This new model will be 25% smaller than the current ‘Slim’ version and will be available in 2 bundles. The first bundle will be released on September 25th (yeah, as in next week) and will include a 250GB Hard Drive ,a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception & other digital items that will retail at $269.99.

In case you were wondering, that is the same price it normally goes for right now.

The second bundle, which will be released on October 30th, will boast a 500GB Hard Drive (!) and will have Assassin’s Creed III bundled with it.  It is just barely going to be a year since I bought the Uncharted 3 bundle that included a 300GB Hard Drive that I am having a difficult time filling it up with content.

Can you imagine just how many games you can fit on a 500GB Hard Drive? My guess: ALOT.

PS Vita Report

Meanwhile on the PS Vita front, a couple of games were announced one of them being a port of the excellent Wii game Muramasa: The Demon Blade (if you haven’t checked it out yet, I suggest you do so), God Eater 2, and a new action game from Tecmo Koei titled Toukiden.

There wasn’t any mention of a price cut for the Vita, though there will be 2 new models available for the handheld: Cosmic Red & Sapphire Blue. Yay? No word yet as to whether or not both of those colors will make it stateside.

Here is something that I’m sure will get everyone’s attention: Playstation Plus is coming to the Vita this fall. Better yet, if you are already a subscriber to PS+ on the PS3, you don’t have to pay anything extra to get the same service on the Vita. The service for the Vita will include cloud support up to 1GB, free games, discount on games and DLC, auto trophy sync & automatic updates.

Sony briefly talked about it’s acquisition of Gaikai, a cloud based gaming service, but were not being specific as to when we will see it in action.

So that was the conference. While it was lackluster in terms of any major announcements, they got a huge feature coming to the Vita (which disparately needs something positive to talk about) and a new PS3 model is pretty cool, though I don’t think we needed 3 versions of the same console.

P.S:

There was no mention whatsoever of The Last Guardian.  :(
