If you haven’t played World of Warcraft yet, it might be time to give it a try! WoWs 14 day free trial has been extended to let players play as long as they want. The catch? You can’t pass level 20. Blizzard is calling this the World of Warcraft Starter Edition, and you can even play some of the Burning Crusade’s content. Players can create Blood Elves or Draenei in addition to all the races from the original WoW.
The only thing I can really see this hurting is all the other free-to-play MMO’s out there. It’s no surprise WoW has many competitors. One of the many ways these competitors got a stake in the market was offering F2P for basically their whole game, and charging for micro transactions. Now that WoW is offering F2P till level 20, I can’t see many new MMO players giving the competition a serious try. The first 20 levels of WoW on multiple characters is certainly enough to get at least a few new players hooked… and with WoW once you got em, well you got em!
